Recycling

Welcome to the Abiquiu Computers Recycling Project
Abiquiu Computers started out in the Fall of 2008 when I went to the dump in Espanola to get rid of some old computer electronics, which they were recycling at the time. What I found in their dumpster were some computers better than mine at home, so I grabbed them. I fixed them up and gave them away. After that, I went to the dump almost weekly hoping to find something good. Unfortunately, after about 6 months, the dump was no longer recycling electronics, but instead, sending it all to a land fill.

Due to this experience, I kept fixing up computers and giving them away to people in my community and the surrounding area. Fortunately, individual people and some businesses would periodically give me equipment, allowing me to continue refurbishing and giving away computers. My process is very basic, I get a computer which I evaluate. Any computer I don't feel can be refurbished is parted out and properly recycled. The 'good' computers will get a fresh start, with upgraded parts and memory, and a completely restored operating system. No personal data is ever left on a hard drive. If the drive can't be re-used then it is actually taken apart and the metal is scrapped.

So far, so good
As of December 18, 2016, Abiquiu Computers has given away 321 computers. I have to thank all the people that have donated computers to me so that I am able to do this. I am proud to have kept all these computers out of the landfill, at least for a while. At the same time, a lot of people that might not be able to afford a computer have received them. This is a great opportunity for many people in my community. If you have some electronics you aren't using that you would like to be rid of, please let me know. You can email me HERE. If you have some extra money you don't need, you can also send me a check to: Brian Bondy, PO box 1052, Abiquiu NM, 87510, write Abiquiu Computers in the memo please. As of the end of July 2016, I am no longer sponsored by Lucinte as a 501c3. Unfortunately, the requirements to stay under their umbrella are far too great for what I am doing, as a completely money losing entity. Still, your donations can help me out. The money goes to reimburse me for some of the parts I buy to refurbish computers and printers, etc.

Luciente is a 501c3, and they were my fiscal sponsor for several years. Thank you Luciente! You can still send money to them at PO Box 607, Abiquiu NM, 87510, if you would like to help out our little community.

Free Stuff:
Gazillions of cables of all sorts, need something? Ask me first. I have hundreds of feet of indoor cat5.
small LCD displays, keyboards, mice. I even have some old servers.
I likely have computers, but they come and go, so check the abiquiunews newsletter for a current list of free stuff.

Do you have any computer or electronic equipment you aren't using, don't know what to do with?  Consider donating it to Abiquiu Computers.  I will try and find it a nice home.  I completely clean off the hard drives of computers, so there will be no personal data left on the machine.  Anything that seems unusable will be properly recycled in Santa Fe.

Thanks everyone. I couldn't do this without YOU!

Personal info:
My name is Brian Bondy and I have been working with computers for over 30 years now. Keeping a computer going has become a bit of an obsession for me since I saw them being tossed into a dumpster. But I give away more than computers, as I seem to have amassed a lot of other computer peripherals. I have a lot of cables and power supplies, but I also have wireless routers, and external hard drives for backing up your computer, cordless phones. I have a lot more 'stuff' than that too.

Aside from my family and friends that have given me computers, businesses like The Santa Fe Opera, Akal Security, and Ghost Ranch have also recycled through me. Neighbors in Abiquiu have been VERY generous over the years as well. While I know nothing about electronics, I can do some simple soldering and have replaced capacitors on logic boards quite a few times, repairing items from computer motherboards, to WiFi routers, and even a video card one time. My over 30 years of experience with computers has made me a pretty good guesser as to figuring out what the problem is, and really, I like to solve the puzzle. Thank you for visiting my website.
